Noninvasive Facial Contouring with EmFace® is the Better Alternative to a Face-Lift
Facial aging doesn’t just change how you look — it changes how you feel. Face-lift surgery is an option, but it comes with some significant risks. Emface® offers a nonsurgical alternative aimed at natural rejuvenation.

Many factors contribute to facial aging. Sun exposure is responsible for much of it, but even if you’re very careful about regularly applying sunscreen, you still can’t escape the age-related changes in your skin or the wrinkles and sagging skin associated with those changes.

Reduced collagen production happens naturally as you age, leading to a decline in skin’s firmness and resilience. Loss of underlying muscle tone also contributes, making it easier for skin to sag and droop.

Face-lift surgery addresses both problems, repositioning underlying facial muscles while removing excess skin. But like any surgery, there are drawbacks, including a risk of complications, inferior (and permanent) results, a lengthy recovery period, and high cost.

At the Institute for Hormonal Balance, our team offers a revolutionary treatment for facial aging called Emface®, a noninvasive therapy that treats collagen decline and muscle loss. Here, learn how Emface works and why it’s becoming a preferred alternative to face-lift surgery.

The science behind Emface

BTL Aesthetics, the rejuvenation technology company responsible for the popular (and effective) Emsculpt® body-contouring system, also developed Emface.

Like Emsculpt, Emface uses patented energy delivery to tighten and tone muscles. But while Emsculpt delivers energy to larger muscle groups, Emface is designed to treat your face's smaller, more superficial muscles.

High-intensity facial electromagnetic stimulation (HIFES)

Emface uses high-intensity facial electromagnetic stimulation (HIFES) to stimulate 75,000 facial muscle contractions over 20 minutes. These contractions target the facial muscles responsible for drooping and sagging, including muscles on your forehead and cheeks.

Rapid and repetitive muscle contractions tighten and tone muscles while also triggering changes to improve muscle volume and dentistry, providing a gentle lift to sagging facial features, including the midface region, your brows, and the area around your mouth.

Synchronized radiofrequency (RF) energy

At the same time, Emface delivers regular bursts of RF energy that penetrate the skin’s upper layers, creating a deep warming effect that tightens and tones your skin. Deep heat penetration also triggers collagen production, helping your skin look and feel firmer without harming facial fat or other tissues that help your skin look more youthful.

RF energy heat also promotes the development of another important skin protein called elastin. Like collagen, elastin promotes skin firmness while helping skin “bounce back” to help prevent wrinkle formation.

Emface treatment: What to expect

Emface treatment sessions take under a half hour and are painless. The device uses special pads that are adhered to your skin. Attached to the Emface device, the pads deliver deep energy waves.

During your treatment, your skin feels warm, an effect of the RF energy penetrating deeper layers of tissue. HIFES creates a gentle pulling sensation as your muscles repeatedly contract and relax.

Afterward, your skin may appear a little red, a temporary effect that clears up soon after. There’s no downtime, so that you can return to your regular activities.

Although you can see improvements soon after treatment, your skin looks tighter and more toned as collagen production ramps up over the next several weeks. Most patients achieve optimal benefits after several treatments a few weeks apart.
